the drummer boy of shiloh

in the story"the drummer boy of Shiloh"by Ray Bradbury.Joby, the drummer boy doesn't have any confidence in himself. in the beginning of the book he doubted himself but then he realized that being the drummer boy is more than that and he regained his confidence after his little chat with the general.

one example is in page fifty,"me,thought the boy,i got only a drum, two sticks to beat it and no shield",shows that he doesn't feel so secure .Also that the war might be too much for him and that he wouldn't make it through the war.But later on the story the general tells Joby that if he himself didn't make it through the was ,Joby would be the general after him.The general told Joby that he was the heart of the army.

another example was that in the beginning of the story,"Joby turned on his side.a moth brushed his face, but it was a peach blossom.A peach blossom flicked him,but it was a moth."this quote shows that Joby cant tell what is what and that everything has changed. Also that nothing was as it once was.But later on in the story the general tells Joby that is he makes it through the war and if anyone asks him what he was doing during this war,he should one part proud and one part humble say that he was the drummer boy at Shiloh.

from these two examples we can conclude that in the beginning of the story Joby didn't feel secure and the example from the text,"i got only a drum, two sticks to beat it and no shield."then in the end the general tells Joby if anyone asked was he did he should proudly say that he was the drummer boy at Shiloh.
